Cambodian girls and young women are expected to help financially support their families...

Cambodian girls and young women are expected to help financially support their families. As a result, many Cambodian girls are migrating to work in garment factories in the cities of Cambodia and in neighboring countries. Risks for these young women are often exacerbated by birth certificates being modified to allow younger girls to go. Families often live on “credit” while the girls are away, making it difficult for them to quit, no matter how risky their situation. This project gives girls and young women practical skills in literacy, numeracy, and income generation at home, preventing migration and improving their decision-making skills so they can avoid the risks of trafficking.
