Children as young as 10 are now the head of the family and are desperate to keep their siblings together. Most are unwilling to leave their family land. In some areas, 35 percent of elementary school students are orphans who have lost their parents and extended family members to AIDS. ADRA is creating village committees to keep these children safe. ADRA is also training the committees in marketable skills, and the income is used to help provide for the children. In addition, ADRA is providing these children with food and school uniforms.
